Sales Professionals Wanted

 

We are a high technology firm seeking experienced sales professionals to sell Data Management, Direct Mail, Web Development and Software Service Solutions.  While we would ideally prefer you to have some direct experience in one or more of these disciplines, we are also interested if you have at least a few years of experience in a similar or related field.  (Working as a sales clerk for Macy's is not a related field!)  We encourage you to learn as much as you can about our firm before contacting us so after reviewing the following information, please explore our website.  If you feel that you are qualified, please email a cover letter and resume to mfarrara@crosscountrycomputer.com.  If you have any particular salary requirements, please share that with us as well.  Below you will find a brief overview of some of our business lines, followed by some comments about compensation and benefit plans.
 
Our business
 
Our business has traditionally involved providing Direct Mail Data Processing Services (i.e. Merge Purge, Database Design, List Rental Fulfillment) to any companies that maintain marketing databases and do large scale direct mailings to tens of thousands to tens of millions of recipients.  This includes cataloguers, publishers, telecoms, financials, pharmaceuticals, computer hardware/software companies, retailers, and more.  Advertising agencies and Direct Marketing consultants are ideal prospects as well.  A typical decision-maker is a Marketing Director.
 
In recent years, we have been leveraging our core data management skills to enter new markets that are not related to Direct Marketing.  For example, we provide shareholder services to some financial institutions and transfer agents.  This includes proxy services, account householding, custom reporting and a variety of other data driven offerings.  We also provide unclaimed property services so if you know anyone that uses words like 'escheat', you are on the right track!  
 
We are finding that many companies are struggling to find ways to get data into and out of their internal systems.  We have therefore been developing a variety of solutions that can be delivered as either custom software applications, or as web portal applications that have us acting as an ASP.  The specific application is not important.  What is important is that all organizations have the same challenge, which is making sure data gets into and out of their systems quickly and accurately.  For example, we have some clients in the Human Resource sector that use us to accept automated data feeds from their internal HR departments and other 3rd party vendors.  Our systems accept these data feeds and perform hundreds of data validation checks.  For instance, if an employee has a hire date that is earlier than their birth date, that would mean there is an error in the data.  We find these errors and either correct them automatically, or we allow authorized client users to logon and correct bad data.  We may then allow our customers' employees to logon to a web portal that we host to make benefit elections and then we automatically send data files to ADP and the different health providers in their required formats.  Human Resources is just one market for these skills.  Please give some thought to who in your network has challenges with large scale data conversion, analysis, repair, reporting and delivery. 
 
As we developed experience designing online database applications and web portals, a by product was that we developed the in-house skill set to do more traditional website design.  Simple sites with little interactivity may cost $5-10,000 to build.  See www.redroartech.com.  If you feel you can sell website design projects of this scope, line up a few prospective clients and then contact us.  Decision makers are usually small business owners or someone in a marketing role.

Your compensation package
 
We are really pretty open to different alternatives including a combination of base and commission.  Because the vast majority of sales involve residual business, you can benefit from a commission structure that allows you to continue to earn commissions long after you close a sale.  Ours is truly a business model where your earnings can compound over time.  We do not churn through sales staff.  In fact, we have very little turnover across our entire company, and our existing sales force has been with us for many years.  We would like to complement their success, with some new team members which is why we are potentially interested in you!  As a side note on compensation, it is important to remain realistic.  If you want a significant base salary or draw, then please be prepared to deliver results virtually immediately.  For many of our services, it is not unusual to have a 6-month sales cycle.  So, if you do want a healthy base salary, you really either need an existing network of qualified prospects, or one or more contacts that you feel you can convert right away.  All you really need is one large customer to earn a salary that could exceed $100,000!  We also offer individual health coverage and a 401(k) plan, plus vacation and so forth.
 
Your Job Description
  
Your job description depends on your level of experience and compensation structure.  If you have a huge network and can deliver quick results, then cold calling may only be a small part of your day.  If you are not blessed with a large network and the ability to deliver quick results, then you will need to do cold calling.  Cold calling is a tough business, so it would really be helpful to both you and us if you have already proven yourself capable of performing in that environment.  You need to be hungry, and you need to be persistent.  When you are successful though, you will be rewarded handsomely!  You will have a desk in a shared office, or you will have your own cubicle.  If you are really an all-star, we will consider building you your own office when you prove yourself.  Once you bring a client on board, you will be expected to maintain a relationship, but you will not generally be needed to get involved with any day to day details.  We have a great team to service the accounts.  Your job is to sell.  As for travel, you will get to go to some New York area tradeshows.  As you prove yourself, you can join us for travel to out of state events.  As you qualify leads, we will be happy to have one of our managers join you on conference calls or at meetings.
